Bagan

Bagan is where the heart of the country ancient architecture lies and was the capital of Myanmar’s first dynasty. At the kingdoms height, from the 11th to 13th centuries, over 10.000 temples, pagodas and monasteries were constructed. Located in an eartquake zone, over time many temples have been severely to irreparably damaged. Over 2200 temples and pagodas still survive to the present day.

Bagan had been on my itinery for years and time seemed right to visit Myanmar and this amazing temple location, one of the richest archaeological sites in South-east Asia. As a photographer there are endless angles to find and going around this area is a true photographers paradise. The lighting at sunrise and sunset is magnificient and makes getting at 5 am very rewarding in this extremely photogenic area.
